Job Summary
The Personal Care Aide (PCA) is a member of the Home Care Team who provides a personalized
approach of ensuring every client has their specific needs met to maintain independence within
their home. The Personal Care Aide is responsible for observing, reporting, and documenting any
changes in level of care. Duties may include personal care, nutrition, maintaining a clean,
healthy, and safe environment, assist with ambulation and transfers, home management, toileting,
and medication reminders. Duties below are not inclusive to maintain this position.
Qualifications
The applicant must be 18 years or older. Must be able to read, write and follow verbal and written
instructions and document the services provided. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
preferred. Have at a minimum 1 year of experience and be able to receive documented on the job
training.
Responsibilities & Duties
• Comply with clients Rights and Responsibilities/Confidentiality/HIPPA
• Demonstrate use of Standard Precautions
• Supervise safety of client while toileting, bathing & dressing; as well as assist with
transfers and ambulation
• Assist with bathing, peri-care, general skin care when skin is unbroken
• Assist with application of non-prescription support stockings
• Assist w/dressing, grooming, shaving, oral care, haircare, nail/footcare (no cutting of
nails)
• Reports changes in clients situation (mental, skin breakdown, healthcare, etc.)
• Prepare simple snacks or meals and encourage and monitor fluid/food intake
• Explain procedures to client
• Identify, report, and eliminate safety hazards in the home
• Perform light housekeeping, clean bathroom, vacuum, sweep, mop, linen change,
laundry, and empty trash
